Pulse Innovation Hub, Agri-Business Incubation Centre (ABIC) based at ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research,
Kanpur is a technology-based incubation centre supported by ICAR scheme NAIF component -II (Innovation Fund).
The centre was started functioning in the year 2020 and is dedicated to pulses. Dr. Himanshu Pathak, former
Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR), inaugurated the Agri-Business Incubation Centre at ICAR–Indian
Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur, on 15th April 2023. Since 2024, the unit has been known as the Pulse
Innovation Hub. The Pulse Innovation Hub, provides a range of support services like technology mentoring,
networking, access to state of art laboratories, office space and developing forward and backward linkages for
business promotion. The ABIC is also mandated to create awareness about the available avenues for business
promotion related to pulse crops among the potential entrepreneurs, youth and farmers.
The Agri-Business Incubation Centre (ABIC) at ICAR–Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR), Kanpur, serves as
a dynamic platform for nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship in the pulses sector. It bridges scientific
expertise with business potential, enabling start-ups and agripreneurs to transform research-based ideas into
viable commercial ventures.
At Pulse Innovation Hub, incubatees gain access to a network of scientist-mentors specializing in diverse areas
of pulse production, processing, value addition, and agri-technologies. The incubation support is designed to
cater to both early-stage and growth-oriented enterprises through two flexible modes:
Incubatees are provided with dedicated office space, access to advanced laboratories and pilot-scale facilities,
research equipment, and close mentorship from ICAR-IIPR experts all within the institute campus.
Designed for entrepreneurs operating at their own locations, this mode offers remote mentorship,
technical guidance, and continuous advisory support from ABIC mentors to strengthen business operations
and technology adoption.
Pulses innovation hub follows a five-stage incubation model, tailored to suit innovations across the pulse
